SUMMARY:Marine VHF/DSC SRC Exam
DESCRIPTION:\nIntroduction\nThe Marine VHF/DSC SRC Exam will qualify indivi
 duals to hold the Short Range Certificate (SRC) which is the minimum quali
 fication required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital S
 elective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily
  fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and handheld equipment usin
 g International channels.   In order to achieve the SRC\, owners of VHF/D
 SC equipment must undertake an MCA mandated exam to follow on from the Sho
 rt Range Certificate (SRC) VHF/DSC 10 hour practical course or the RYA VHF
 /DSC Interactive Course which can be completed on-line.\n\nThe Marine VHF/
 DSC SRC Exam consists of a 30 minute theory paper and 60 minute practical 
 assessment.  It will comprise of some administration and a familiarisatio
 n period on the physical equipment being used  for the exam.  In total\,
   you should be at the centre for no more than 2 hours.\n\n&nbsp\;\nPract
 ical Exam topics include:\n\n 	Defining a Distress/Urgency/Safety Message\
 n 	Initiating DSC Distress/Urgency/Safety/Routine Alerts\n 	Transmitting a
  distress/Urgency/Safety/Routine message by voice using appropriate channe
 ls\n 	Responding to DSC alerts and routine messages and relay of distress 
 alerts\n 	Use of EPIRB and SART\n 	Cancelling error distress messages\n 	E
 ntering MMSI Individual and Group numbers\n 	Maintenance of a listening wa
 tch\n 	Use of the Phonetic Alphabet\n\nTheory Exam topics include:\n\n\n 	
 The basics of radio operation\n 	The correct frequencies (channels) to be 
 used\n 	Distress\, emergency and medical assistance procedures\n 	making s
 hip to shore telephone calls\n 	Digital Selective Calling (DSC)\n 	Global 
 Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)\n 	Emergency Position Indicati
 ng Radio Beacons (EPIRB)\n 	Search and Rescue Transponder (SART).\n\nTwo S
 tep Booking Process\nStep 1. Pay your VHF SRC exam fee.\n\nThis is payable
  directly to the RYA www.rya.org.uk/training/theory/src-exams\n\nStep 2. 
 Book your exam date at PPSA.\n\nOn arrival you will need to produce a proo
 f of payment of your RYA VHF SRC Exam Fee before sitting the assessment.
