About the MCA Approved Ancillary Courses
The MCA Approved Courses form part of the ancillary safety training that is an integral part of the competency requirements for the Boatmasters’ Licence (BML). There are three one-day basic safety courses which must be successfully completed by all candidates:
(a) Personal Survival and Water Safety
(b) First Aid;
(c) Fire Safety.
All ancillary training required for issue of a BML must be completed at an MCA approved training centre. There are also RYA Courses that are MCA accepted equivalent courses meeting the requirments of BML Approved Ancillary Safety Training.
These courses also meet the requirements of the Workboat (Edition 3) Code Annex 4 and Sports or Pleasure Vessel Code Annex 4 for sub 24m vessels
This MCA Approved course meets the requirements for ancillary training for the BML and in addtion meeting the requirements of Appendix 5 of the Workboat Code Edn 3 and Appendix 5 to the Sport or Pleasure Vessel Code.
The RYA Basic Sea Survival Course will provide you with a good knowledge of the safety equipment carried on small boats and the techniques needed to survive at sea in heavy weather.
It is one of the MCA Accepted Equivalent courses to BML Approved Ancillary Safety Training
The RYA First Aid Course will give the sailor a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft.
It is one of the MCA Accepted Equivalent courses to BML Approved Ancillary Safety Training
