About The Course
This RYA Yachtmaster Theory course is ideal for candidates for the Advanced Powerboat Helm (Day and Night) and Coastal Skipper practical course & Yachmaster Offshore exam. The RYA Yachtmaster qualification is the pinnacle of yacht training for sail or power. Anyone seeking to gain an RYA Advanced Powerboat/Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence requires a broad theoretical knoweledge base and a significant practical skill.
The RYA Yachtmaster Theory Course containts some revision of the Day Skipper shorebased course plus more advanced skills in offshore & coastal navigation by day & night, pilotage & meteorology.

Assumed Knowledge
A knowledge of safety and navigation to the standard of Day Skipper Theory is required.
Duration
The RYA Yachmaster Theory Course is intensive and lasts for approx 40 hours (plus exam time) spread over 6 days or 2 weekends (depending on dates chosen) and includes homework.

Students will be given the RYA Yachtmaster Course Pack as part of the course. We recommend that pre-reading is carried out prior to the course. With sufficient notice (no less than 10 days prior to the course start), PPSA can order the following literature should you want it:
On Completion
It is an intensive course and on conclusion is will give students the background knowledge to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day & night.
This qualification forms the basis of the navigation skills required for the RYA Advanced Powerboat (Day and Night) certificate. and the Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence Exam.
