About The Course
The Sailing with Spinnakers course will be delivered by an Advanced Instructor or by an instructor with appropriate experience and approved by the Centre Chief Instructor. The syllabus will cover the following areas:
- Rigging including spinnaker.
- Sailing techniques and manoeuvres appropriate to spinnaker boats.
- Racing courses and techniques for spinnakers.
- The theory of apparent wind sailing.
- How hull shape affects performance.
- Rig set up sources.
Assumed Knowledge
It is assumed that when starting on this course you have already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for the previous levels in either the RYA National Sailing Scheme or the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.
Duration
Approximately 16 hours, either spread over a series of sessions or 2 full days
On Completion
On successful completion of this course you will understand how to sail a dinghy/keelboat rigged with an asymmetric or symmetric spinnaker.

Next Steps
It is recommended that all participants consolidate this Sailing with Spinnakers course with some practice at our open sessions and clubs then take any of the other RYA Sailing Scheme Advanced Module courses.
