About The Course
The RYA Performance Sailing Course is about understanding the forces on your boat, how to use them in light winds and neutralise them in strong winds. The emphasis in on coaching to improve your sailing performance and will involve coaching from powerboats. This course is intended primarily for crewed, spinnaker boats.
Assumed Knowledge
It is assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for previous levels in either the RYA National Sailing Scheme or the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.. In practical terms, at least a full season’s sailing experience since learning to sail is advisable
Duration
Approximately 16 hours (either spread over a series of sessions or 2 full days).
On Completion
On successful completion of this course, you will understand how to sail performance keelboats in all wind conditions that you can expect to encounter, sailing the boat to best advantage at all times.

Next Steps
It is recommended that all participants consolidate this Performance Sailing course with some practice at our open sessions and clubs then take any of the other RYA Sailing Scheme Advanced Module courses.
