About The Course
Before being accepted onto a Powerboat Instructors Course, candidates must enrol onto and successfully pass the RYA Powerboat Instructor Skills Assessment.
Candidates for the Powerboat Instructor Skills Assessment will be expected to demonstrate competence in the following manouvres:
- Hold off a mark.
- Pick up and secure to a buoy.
- Moor alongside up/downtide
- Turn using warps.
- Turn in a confinded space.
- Recover a MOB (Dummy).
- Stop/Start engine
- Planing speed runs including Figure 8 and U Turns
Assumed Knowledge
Possess at least 5 years experience of practical powerboating in a variety of types of boats. For those that are powerboating full-time, this may be reduced to onse season.
Candidates for the Powerboat Instructors’ Course must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
Duration
The duration of the Powerboat Instructors Skills Assesment will depend on the number of candidats on assessment, but will be no longer than 1 day.
On Completion
You will be ready to undertake your Powerboat Instructors’ Course within 1 year of completion
Course Literature
You will need to bring with you the Powerboat Instructors Handbook which will be signed on completion of a successfull skills assessment. If you wish to order one through PPSA, please book via the link giving us us 10 days notice and the book will be available for you on your arrival.
