Online VHF/DSC Course Overview
This RYA VHF DSC course is an interactive course for the short Range Certificate (SRC) that allows the legal use of Marine VHF/DSC radios. The course is available on PC and MAC.
It is hoped that you will be able to attend an assessment at PPSA at Neyland Yacht Haven, Brunel Quay, Neyland in Pembrokeshire, details of dates for assessments are contained in the PPSA Calendar, although if you cannot find a date to suit you, please get in touch and the assessmenet team will endevour to find a date to suit you.
Course topics include:
- the basics of radio operation
- the correct frequencies (channels) to be used
- distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
- making ship to shore telephone calls
- Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators
- Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
- Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
- Search and Rescue (SART)
- The course will be taught using radio simulators and will be examined by a short written test.
Please note, the Short Range Certificate Assessment is a separate fee.
The assessment comprises of a 30 min theory paper and a 30 min practical assessment. On succesful completion, your licence applicaiton will be sent to be processed by the RYA.
